Friends of Franz Podcast S1 E23: Physical Therapy with Dr. Veronica Velasquez (ThisPTLife)
Movement is such a crucial part of life. From using our hands to brush our teeth, to using our legs to walk to the car and even to using our fingertips to punch the digital pins of our credit cards to purchase our groceries, movement is a voluntary part of life that we often take for granted. However, certain undesirable incidents happen in life that reminds us of how important movement can be, such as accidents, paralysis, morphological defects, and even moments of pain. The independence that we possess when we can move is indispensable, and the beautiful field of physical therapy (PT) seeks to restore this freedom. In this episode, we speak to freedom-restorer Dr. Veronica Velasquez, who relays the stories of pain and victories inside people's homes.
Attaining her doctorate degree in Physical Therapy (DPT), Dr. Veronica now stands as an acute care and home health physical therapist. From the halls of the hospital to the living rooms of patients' homes, she seeks to give hope to those who have lost it. She also contributes to education as a Teaching Assistant for DPT students in their Patient Care Skills and Kinesiology laboratory sections.
According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the PT profession seeks to "maximize the quality of life, [helping] people rehabilitate from devastating injuries, manage chronic conditions, avoid surgery and prescription drugs, and create healthy habits." Join me as we hear the stories of rehabilitation and beautification of peoples' lives once more through Veronica's restoration of the ability to move.
